Breaking the silence.

I've been quiet for a while. Mostly due to lots of work and family life, but also due to the fear of unsubscriptions that might follow if I flat out acknowledge that I'm not producing any more YouTube videos. I so wish I had the time, but sadly I don't.

Therefore I hereby announce that my YouTube series on MilkyTracker is being put on ice. For how long I can't tell. One of the main reasons is that it takes too much time. I'm not a good ad-libber, I want a script. This means I have to write one. This takes time. Then I go on to recording the voice over. This is usually done rather quickly. Then I shoot the screen captures, just to get it the way I want it. Sometimes it's one-shot, sometimes it involves several re-takes. Now for the real time consumer - putting it all together. I probably could do it faster with less texts and stuff flying by, but honestly, that's how I like the videos, and that was how I wanted the multi8it videos to look. If I stray from those ideals, I'm doing something I don't want to, and that's the easiest way of not getting it done at all.

So, what's on the horizon? I don't really know. I do know that I want to finish the series, but that's something I won't be able to do for some time. I also know that I want to do some videos on open source philosophy and maybe some hacktivism. These require less production compared, so maybe these will be easier getting done.

If any of the above interests you, by all means, stay subscribed. However, I do understand if you're disappointed and feel like you've been cheated (we never got to the effects and all that fun stuff).

I'd like to finish this post off by saying that I really enjoyed all the positive feedback. You really made me feel like I was contributing to the community.

Peace!

  1. Hey Simon,

I literally found out about Milkytracker a few days ago, after doing a little bit of reading about Chiptune.

Please continue your series on Milkytracker. I searched around the web and stumbled across your youtube channel.

I started to watch your first episode on Milkytracker and was blown away at how funny and awesome your videos are, and also at how informative your short and to the point Multi8it style is.

I really mean it! I watched all the tutorials through, one after the other, feeling that finally I could sink my teeth into learning about Milkytracker with some well produced, high quality videos.... Then, disaster! There is no more. Argh! Shock and horror!

Listen, I know you have a life and I appreciate that it takes a lot of effort to make the videos, but please can you find the time to finish the series.

Your videos are by far the best resource I could find after several hours of searching around for tutorials on Milkytracker. Yes, there are others dotted around, but most lack flair and the fun element that are so abundant in your videos.

Well, all I can say is thank you for the awesome videos that you have already done, and I really hope you can find time to make a few more.

    I'll be waiting.

All the best with you and in your future endeavours,

    - Daniel H. from the UK :)
